Scapa Flow, Orkneys Sat 13th - Sat 20th September 2008
We are very pleased to announce details of Rec-n-Tec's much requested first trip to Scapa Flow in the Orkney Islands to dive the stunning wrecks of the German High Seas Fleet scuttled by the commanding officer, Admiral von Reuther, while the ships were interned at the end of the First World War. In addition to these wrecks, it is possible to dive the block ships, the trawler James Barrie, a German submarine and also scenic sites.
This is a shore-based trip with 6 days diving aboard the MV Sharon Rose, a former fishing trawler converted into a dive boat. Accommodation will be in the Ferry Inn at Stromness, near the habour from which the boat will leave each morning.
The cost per person will be £450 for accommodation and diving. Divers will be responsible for making their own arrangements for travelling to the Orkneys. British Airways flights from Heathrow connecting via Aberdeen to Kirkwall are currently available on the BA website for £144 return. It is also possible to drive and take the ferry from Scrabster to Stromness. If there is enough demand, the Rec-n-Tec van can be taken. For a nominal fee to cover the cost of fuel, it would be possible to take dive gear for people joining the trip who wish to fly there.
The depth of the dives is within recreational limits. We would recommend that divers are qualified to use nitrox. A dry suit would also make the dives more comfortable. Scapa Flow is a fantastic destination for technical diving and as such, we are offering a 25% discount on the cost of any technical diving courses booked in conjunction with this trip.
