Rescue Diver
Why PADI Rescue Diver?
This course will expand your knowledge and experience level. Rescue Divers learn to look beyond themselves and consider the safety and well being of other divers. Although this course is serious, it is an enjoyable way to build your confidence.
What do I need to start?
To participate in the open water rescue scenarios, you must be certified as a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver.
You must also have successful completed a sanctioned CPR programme within the past 24 months. The Emergency First Response Primary Care (CPR) and Secondary Care (First Aid) courses meet these requirements.
What will I do?
Rescue Diver training will prepare you to prevent problems and, if necessary, manage dive emergencies. During five rescue training sessions, you will learn a range of skills from self-rescue through to egress of an unconscious diver.
How is the course taught at Rec-n-Tec?
Knowledge Development
When you sign up for the course, you will take away the 'Rescue Diver' crew pack containing the manual that accompanies the course. The manual is divided into five sections. Each week, you will need to read the next section and complete the Knowledge Review. Your instructor will run through it, clarify any points that you may not have fully understood and answer any queries. There is also a Rescue Diver DVD to watch, showing the new skills that you will be learning. Knowledge Development concludes with a short multiple choice exam.
Emergency First Response
If you do not already hold an approved First Aid/CPR qualification, our instructors are qualified to teach the EFR course which fulfils the necessary criteria. EFR is taught at the dive centre and should only take a few hours of your time.
Rescue Training Sessions
You will then have the chance to put theory into practice, learning rescue techniques in the safe confines of a swimming pool. Confined water training happens on Wednesday evenings at a local Sports Centre. There are a minimum of five rescue training sessions before moving to open water.
Rescue Scenarios
To successfully complete the Rescue Diver course, you will need to participate in four rescue scenarios in open water, usually scheduled over two days. There are many opportunities to do this throughout the year. We have an extensive open water training schedule and rescue scenarios can be completed on one of our overseas dive trips.
